Introducing Operation Lemonade

In a gentle way, you can shake the world. -- Mohandas Gandhi

At K12 we believe in changing the world, one child at a time, one day at time. We believe in removing barriers that can keep children from achieving their innate personal potential. We believe that even small ripples can make big waves in the world. These beliefs define us.

This past summer we held our first Making Waves conference where we celebrated and encouraged the ambitions of kids using K12 across the country to make a difference in the world. At this conference we met Jay and Liz Scott, the parents of one remarkable young girl named Alex.

Hers is a story that left an indelible mark on every person in the room—adults and children. There wasn’t a dry eye in the room, nor any belief left that even the hardest things can’t be tackled through seemingly small efforts—or by little people.

In fact, Alex’s story, her vision, and the inspiration she left behind moved us so profoundly that K12 has decided to adopt her cause as a corporate mission and a philanthropic call to arms.

We will ask each of the kids using K12 across the country to join us in answering Alex’s call. Individually, we can make a ripple—but together, more than 30,000 K12 kids can help Alex’s parents make a huge wave in the noble fight against childhood cancer.

So, here’s a peek of who Alex was, what she did, and why we should all care. You will be hearing more from us soon about what we can collectively do about it this year.
