Letter from Our Head of School

Welcome to the Arizona Virtual Academy

Dear Parent,

As a virtual public charter school funded by state tax dollars, the Arizona Virtual Academy (AZVA) makes it easy for you to be an active participant in your student’s education. You receive a complete curriculum, lesson planning programs, books and instructional materials, and the use of a computer system if needed—in short, everything you need for an excellent education.

The Arizona Virtual Academy uses the outstanding curriculum from K12, featuring traditional subjects for kindergarten through twelfth grade. Using this innovative learning program, AZVA provides an education that meets or exceeds state standards, and students demonstrate their knowledge and skills through state standardized tests.

While AZVA has requirements for grade advancement, the K12 learning program allows elementary students to work at the pace that is right for them. Middle and high school classes are more synchronous, but still allow for greater flexibility than is typically possible in traditional schools. Placement tests are administered to ensure that each child will be matched to his or her level of proficiency.

AZVA is not only about lessons. Teachers organize school outings to museums, roller- and ice-skating parks, local zoos, and other interesting and enjoyable sites. These events bring families together and create real networks within the AZVA community.

Not only are we proud of our school, but we also believe that it’s a profoundly good choice for families who are interested in getting actively involved in their children’s education. We hope to welcome you soon to the Arizona Virtual Academy community.

Best regards,

Julie Frein
Head of School
