Special Programs

Students may also be invited to participate in activities or forums that enable them to meet each other out in the “real” world such as field trips, bowling nights, book clubs, and even student proms.

Making WavesLogo One of the most important opportunities that K¹² provides to students in grades 7-11 is the annual “K¹² Making Waves Leadership Conference ,” which brings together selected student leaders from all of the public and private schools offering K¹² programs. Students are selected on the basis of their demonstrated interest in making a difference in the world—or “Making Waves,” as we call it. The selected students stay together in a dorm, make friends from around the world, participate in collaborative projects and activities, and learn valuable leadership skills that leave a lasting impact on their lives and help these students make an impact in their own local communities.

K¹² provides other opportunities for students to participate in global K¹² programs intended to help improve the world. As of this writing, K¹² students are working together to raise awareness of, and help fight, childhood cancers through support of the “K¹² Operation Lemonade ” program, which supports the Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation. By selling student-designed t-shirts and hosting their own lemonade stands, students follow the lead of a courageous young girl who taught the world that you can make a difference one cup of lemonade at a time. It’s all part of our goal to develop the whole student, including character.
