Testing & Assessment FAQs

If there are grades, how will they be determined?
The Oregon Virtual Academy is a mastery-based program, which means students master concepts and lessons before moving on to the next lesson. Students will be required to submit assignments to their teachers for evaluation and feedback. Teachers will assess mastery and provide quantitative feedback in the secondary grades. Quantitative grading begins at seventh grade.

What tests are required as part of the program?
For the 2008-2009 school year, in addition to K¹² lesson, unit, and semester assessments, ORVA students in grades 3-8 will take the Oregon Assessment of Knowledge and Skills (OAKS).

Do I have to participate in state testing?

All students are required to participate in state testing, and are subject to withdrawal if they do not participate.
